The answer of the Canons of the Synod of Dort in 1618, under five heads, has been synthesized into the English acrostic, TULIP, as follows:

1. Total Inability (or Total Depravity) 
2. Unconditional Election 
3. Limited Atonement 
4. Irresistible Grace 
5. Perseverance of the Saints
