The fickle church attender
Prays of the sermon and the song,
Regardless -- time offender --
That they won't last too long,
Their heart's not set on Jesus,
Something else beckons them on.
The dinner table's calling,
There is a ballgame on.
Hurry through that sermon,
So we can all go home.
Preacher, why keep on a-rambling?
The clock tells us twelve noon.
We need to be soon traveling,
Throughout the month of June.
And when July beckons,
We've other things to do.
So don't e'en get to thinking,
You could preach longer then, too.
