More Baptist Voices for the KJV: United Baptist

These “Voices for the KJV” come from the United Baptist tradition. These Baptists trace their “origin” to the union of Regular Baptists and Separate Baptists under the name “United”. Many other Baptists in the U.S. have the same “point of origin” but have long since dropped the name United. Their grouping on this page does not imply that each church or association is related to or in fellowship with the others.

Calf Creek United Baptist Church, Inez, Kentucky, Articles Of Faith (Old Zion Association)
“Article 5.  We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament of the Authorized King James Version to be the infallible Word of God, taken then for our only rule of faith and practice; and nothing to be added or to be taken from them.”

“Constitution…Article III. Composition…The National Association shall base its faith and practice on the authorized King James Version of the Bible and shall never tolerate the departure therefrom.” [The statement probably dates to the organization of the National Association circa 1962.]

Old Zion Association of United Baptist, Articles of Faith, Kentucky
“Article 5.  We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament of the Authorized King James Version to be the infallible Word of God, taken then for our only rule of faith and practice; and nothing to be added or to be taken from them.

Paint Union Association of United Baptist, Articles of Faith, Kentucky
“5. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, as recorded in the AUTHORIZED KING JAMES VERSION of the BIBLE, to be the infallible Word of God, take it for our only true rule of faith and practice, and nothing is to be added or taken from it.” [According to John Sparks in The Roots of Appalachian Christianity (p. 304) the articles of faith of the Paint Union had been changed only once in the life of the association (up until the time he was writing, of course), and that was “in 1989 to advocate the use of the King James version of the Bible and no other.”]

South Concord Association of United Baptist Churches, Minutes of the One Hundred Sixty-Seventh Session, October 4-5, 1991, p. [Kentucky]
“Resolutions…We request that the churches read and obey the resolutions…19. We seriously recommend that all churches use none other than the authorized King James Version Bible.” [The date of the original resolution is not given, but the list of resolutions is printed in the minutes from year to year.]

Union United Baptist Church, Pilgrim, Kentucky, History of the Church
“Union United Baptist also called Mouth Emily was established in 1861. We are a branch in the Old Zion Association of United Baptists. We use the King James Version Bible.”

United Baptist Church, Springfield, Missouri, Our Doctrine
“The Scriptures. We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired; that it has truth without any admixture of error for its matter; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions should be tried.  We believe that God has preserved His Word for every age.  We accept the preservation of the Old Testament through the Hebrew Masoretic text; and we accept the preservation of the New Testament through the Textus Receptus.  Therefore, we use only the King James Version. (II Tim. 3:16-17; I Peter 1:23-25; II Peter 1:19-21; Psalm 119:160; Psalm 12:6-7)” [Note: this may be an independent Baptist church with “United” as the given name, rather than a United Baptist church.]

United Baptist preacher
“While we looked over a copy of the minutes of his association, one United Baptist explained to me:
“Look at our elements of faith, [pointing] here’s the key one, that ‘we believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, as recorded in the Authorized King James Version of the Bible, to be the infallible Word of God, take it for our only rule of faith and practice, and nothing is to be added or taken from it.’ What does that tell us? That all our rules have to come from the King James [Bible] … If we get a young preacher and he’s citing something that’s way out there, then we can stop him right away, but if we have some differences based on the King James Bible, then we can both use common sense to see whose interpretation is right.”
