More Baptist Voices for the KJV: Independent Baptist

These “Voices for the KJV” come from the independent fundamental Baptist tradition. I started not to include representatives from this group – simply because they are usually those who are best known for holding a “KJV-Only” position. On further reflection I decided to include a few samples.

Amazing Grace Mission, Statement of Faith
“Amazing Grace Mission is a soul winning Independent Fundamental Baptist Mission with a calling to share Jesus through soul winners using market place evangelism methods.”
“1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and that He has preserved it for the English-speaking world in the Authorized King James Version.”

Bellingham Baptist Church, Bellingham, Washington, Why we use the King James Version of the Bible
“Bellingham Baptist Church can confidently say the King James Version is the inspired Word of God, not because God ‘breathed’ again in 1611, but because the King James Bible was translated from the preserved texts....While Bellingham Baptist Church holds to the position that the original manuscripts were given by inspiration of God and are, therefore, perfect and inerrant both verbally and plenarily, we do not believe that inspiration as a process extends to any translation including the King James Version. ...Bellingham Baptist Church does not believe that there are ‘mistakes’ in the King James Version, and does not perform any correcting of the King James Version. Bellingham Baptist Church does not believe that the translation of the King James is wrong or that the King James Version should have been translated differently. The only English version of the Bible we use is the King James  Version...Bellingham Baptist Church rejects the arguments of those who, in their pursuit to defend the King James Version against the onslaught of modern translations, textual criticism and the liberal church movement, have accepted questionable theology concerning the Scriptures and particularly the King James Version of the Bible...Bellingham Baptist Church is a church that uses the King James Version of the Bible by conviction. We cannot see any reason to use another translation in worship or personal study.”

Bible Baptist Church, Rossville, Georgia, What We Believe
“The Inspiration of the Bible. We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testament is the complete revelation from God and is verbally inspired. We believe the King James authorized Bible is God’s preserved Word.”

Bible Baptist Temple, Stonewood, West Virginia, Statement Of Faith
“(A)The Holy Scriptures. We believe that the Bible, the sixty-six books in the Old and New Testaments is the verbal - plenary Word of God, that it was given by inspiration of God, that it is therefore, inerrant and infallible in the original writings, and that it is the sole authority in all matters of faith and practice. We believe that God preserved His Word through the Traditional Masoretic Hebrew Text for the Old Testament and the traditional Received Greek Text for the New Testament. The King James Version is the only translation widely used today that is translated strictly from these texts and therefore we accept it alone as God’s preserved, verbal, plenary, inspired, inerrant, infallible Word for English speaking people. (Other modern versions contain God’s Word, but they also contain many errors.) Psalm 12:6,7 Psalm 119:89 II Timothy 3:16, 17 II Peter 1:21”

Bytown Baptist Church, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, King James Version
“...God has promised to preserve His Word for all times (Psalm 12:6-7).  This He has done by giving us the King James Version.  Since the King James Version is based upon the majority of preserved manuscripts and translated properly, the King James Version does not just contain the Word of God, but in fact is the Word of God - sufficient for all matters of faith and practice.”

Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Post Falls, Idaho, About Us
“The King James Bible - We believe that God originally gave the Scriptures to man by divine inspiration; that Holy men of God were moved by the Holy Ghost to speak and write. We believe that, not only did God give His Word by inspiration, but that He took steps to preserve His Word, just as He promised. It is obvious that the many different Bible versions contradict each other, proving that they can’t all be the Word of the Lord. Our church believes that the Authorized, or the King James Version of the Bible, coming from manuscripts divinely preserved by God, is the Bible. Visitors to our church may, once in a while, hear references to the original Greek and Hebrew languages, but the only English Bible used in our services is the King James Version.”

East Hill Baptist Church, Kent, Washington, A Scriptural Explanation of Our Beliefs: The Holy Scriptures
“We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning, and all issues of interpretation and meaning shall be determined by the pastor. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)”

Faith Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, About Us
“The Bible – The King James Bible is the preserved Word of God in English.”

First Baptist Bible Church, Glendale, Arizona, Who We Are
“We are an Independent, Fundamental, Bible-believing, Baptist Church. That means that we are not under the authority of any kind of hierarchy or convention, but are a self-sustaining, self-propagating body of baptized believers to do business for God. We hold to the fundamental truths of the King James Version Bible and it is the sole authority of our doctrine. We believe that God has inspired His Word and has preserved it through the King James Bible.”

Fishers Baptist Church, Fishers, Indiana, What We Believe
“The Scriptures - We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Bible, as it is in truth, the Word of God (I Thessalonians 2:13). We believe in verbal, plenary inspiration in the original writings, and God’s preservation of His pure words to every generation (II Timothy 3:16, Psalms 12:6-8). The Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text of the New Testament (Textus Receptus) are those texts of the original languages we accept and use; the King James Version of the Bible is the only English version we accept and use. The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice.” [See also Why We Use the KJV.]

Fundamental Baptist Fellowship International, 1984, Resolutions
“We condemn paraphrases such as The Living Bible and Good News for Modern Man and the products of unbelieving and liberal scholarship such as the Revised Standard Version and the New English Bible.
“We deplore the rash of new versions which add to or delete from the Word of God, such as the New International Version, with special reference to those so-called ‘revisions’ which by footnote additions undermine the text.
“We recognize the unique and special place of the Authorized King James Version, providentially preserved by God in the English-speaking world.
“We reject as heretical the concept that any translation of the Bible is given by inspiration, which has in our generation fostered a cult.
“We believe firmly that inspiration ceased upon the closure of the canon of Scripture in the original autographs. We likewise reject the practice of exalting any version or translation to the position held uniquely by the original writings.”

Global Independent Baptist Fellowship, Articles of Faith
“I. Scriptures
“We believe the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired; that it has truth for its matter without any admixture of error; that it is and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; and that it is the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.
“We believe the Authorized (King James) Version Old and New Testaments are the Word of God kept intact for English-speaking peoples by way of God’s divine providence and work of preservation; and that the Authorized Version translators were not ‘inspired’, but were merely God’s instruments used to preserve His words for English-speaking peoples.
“A. By ‘Holy Bible’ we mean that collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, which, as originally written and providentially preserved, does not only contain and convey the Word of God, but is the very Word of God.
“B. By ‘inspiration’ we mean that the books of the Bible were written by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Ghost in such a definite way that their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired and free from error, as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inspired.
“C. By ‘providentially preserved’ we mean that God through the ages has, in His divine providence, preserved the very words that He inspired; that the Hebrew Old Testament text, as found in the Traditional Masoretic Text, and the Greek New Testament text as found in the Textus Receptus, are indeed the products of God’s providential preservation, and are together the complete, preserved, inerrant Word of God.”

Heartland Baptist Bible College, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Doctrines and Distinctives
“The Scriptures...We believe the Authorized (King James) Version, Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God kept intact for English-speaking peoples by way of God’s divine providence and work of preservation; and that the Authorized Version translators were not “inspired,” but were merely God’s instruments used to preserve His words for English-speaking peoples...By providentially preserved we mean that God through the ages has, in His divine providence, preserved the very words that He inspired; that the Hebrew Old Testament text, as found in the Traditional Masoretic Text, and the Greek New Testament text, as found in the Textus Receptus, are indeed the products of God’s providential preservation and are altogether the complete, preserved, inerrant Word of God. We therefore believe and require that the Authorized Version (King James Version) be the only English version used and or endorsed by the staff, faculty, and student body of this college.”

“King James Bible as the Preserved Word of God…Heartland Baptist Bible College is unashamed in its use and defense of the King James Bible.  Holding this position does not require a harsh or negative spirit, but it does require a firm and vigilant stance.”

Independent Baptist Fellowship International, Declaration Of Faith
“I. OF THE SCRIPTURES… C. We believe that the original manuscripts of the Word of God are no longer in existence, but that God has supernaturally and providentially preserved His Word from the very beginning through all of time to this very moment. Psa. 12:6-7, 119:160; Isa. 59:21; Matt. 5:18, 24:35; I Pet. 1:23. We believe that God's Word is preserved for us today in the Authorized King James Version (1611) and that it is the God-honored text of the Reformation. We believe that inspiration without preservation would be meaningless. D. We reject all other translations and paraphrases of the Word of God, and sub- scribe to and use only the KJV (1611 or its equivalent) in all activities…”

Independent Baptist Fellowship of North America, Articles of Faith
“Statement on the King James Version
“Recognizing that different convictions exist among us regarding Bible texts and versions, we believe we should balance soul liberty with Christian charity in these matters, and therefore, agree not to magnify these differences at our meetings in order to remain united as a fellowship. We believe we should leave such discussion and decision to the privacy of individual conscience and the sovereign determination of each local church. Though some of us may use certain versions in the study, we prefer the King James Version in our conference preaching. We trust our speakers will honor this preference. As our Baptist forefathers, we continue to believe that the King James Version is the Word of God in English.”

King James Bible Baptist Church, Greenville, Mississippi, Our Statement Of Faith
“1. The Holy Scriptures - We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning. The King James Bible is the preserved Word of God for the English-speaking people (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21).”

Life Gate Baptist Church, Arab, Alabama, Statement of Faith
“The Scriptures - We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Bible, as it is in truth, the Word of God... (I Thessalonians 2:13). We believe in verbal, plenary inspiration, and God’s preservation of His pure words to every generation (II Timothy 3:16, Psalms 12:6-8). The King James Version of the Bible is the only English version we accept and use. The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice.” [See also Why We Only Use The King James Version.]

Long Hill Baptist Church, Trumbull, Connecticut, Our Statement of Faith
“The Word of God. We believe that the Bible is the very Word of God, fully inspired and without error written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and that it has supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. By the Bible, we mean the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, Genesis to Revelation.  We believe the Bible should be interpreted in its normal grammatical-historical meaning.  We believe that the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts which underlie the King James Version (the Masoretic text of the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus of the New Testament) are the preserved words of God. Furthermore, we believe that the King James Version of the Bible is an accurate English translation of God’s preserved words and therefore, it shall be the official and only English translation of the Holy Scriptures used by this church in all of its ministries (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Matthew 24:35; Psalm 12:6-7; Matthew 5:18)” [See also Why do we use the King James Bible?]

Lukfata Baptist Church, Broken Bow, Oklahoma, What We Believe
“The Holy Bible – We believe that the Holy Bible is a supernatural book; that it is the very Word of God; that it is the full, final, and the complete revelation of God’s will to man; that it has God, the Holy Spirit, for its author, salvation for its end, and truth in the original without any admixture of error for its matter; that it was written by holy men of God under the immediate and direct dictation of the Holy Spirit; that it is verbally inspired and a perfect treasure of holy instruction; and that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us, and is therefore, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions will be tried. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by this church.  (Special note: the King James Version and the New King James Version are two different translations, and only the King James Version will be the accepted translation used by Lukfata Baptist Church.)  (Psalm 119:89; II Timothy 3:16-17; Revelation 22:18-19; John 17:17; John 3:32-34; II Peter 1:20-21; Zephaniah 1:1; Psalm 19:7-11; Exodus 20:3-17; Psalm 1:2; and John 12:48.)”

We believe that this Bible was written by men who were moved by God the Holy Spirit. The Bible is without error and is our sole authority for faith and practice. We believe that God has inspired every word and that He has preserved His Word to our present day. We believe that God has preserved His Word in the Hebrew Masoretic Text (O.T.) and in the Greek Textus Receptus (N.T.). Union Baptist Church, Englewood, Ohio, About Us
“January 19, 2003. ...The Church voted to accept the King James Version of the Bible (Statement of Clarification)”

World Baptist Fellowship, Practices & Principles
“3. In the English speaking countries of the world, our missionaries will teach and preach exclusively from the King James Version of the Bible. When distributing Bibles in the English language, every effort should be made to exclusively distribute the King James Version of the Bible. This is not only by reason of conviction, but for the sake of consistency in teaching and in encouraging Bible memorization.”
