Truth is truth, no matter who says it

Though not always appreciative of what Charles on the Calvinist Flyswatter has to say, I find this statement (actually by Bob Ross, I think) pretty on target: "Furthermore, some modern Calvinists appear to be so 'straight and narrow' about having a proper theoretical or systematic theology that they can't seem to appreciate the simple truth wherever it is found. For example -- Andrew Fuller tells about being criticized by an 18th century strong-as-a-bear's-breath Calvinist for quoting John 3:16, as if it was 'Arminian' to do so. Fuller replied that a Scripture was nonetheless true just because it was used by an Arminian. A lot of these types were actually converted under less-than-Calvinist preachers, even under Arminians, but now they seem rather reluctant to admit it. They can't seem to appreciate the simple Gospel when it happens to be preached by an 'Arminian'."

"I declare unto you the gospel...how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

We must look at the entire Bible. Too often, only certain parts are emphasized while others are forgotten.

That is true. We do that much too often.

Calvinism has kept me true all through the years, and I will stand by that way of thinking. Having said that, I have never disfellowshipped with those who preach otherwise.

With Mr. Spurgeon, Christocentricity is the key to the Christian life, and if God chooses to use a Wesley to draw the fallen to Jesus, who am I to be bitter?

The average pewsitter hasn't a clue, Calvinism vs Arminianism, and anything in between anyway. So let's get on with preaching the Christ.

I taught for years in a liberal seminary, and I was cut off by my evangelical friends. I know the feeling only too well. Nevermind that I was the one light in the darkness of those halls, and if I could influence just one student along the way, I was pleased. At least I knew that one minister would preach the word as he should.

Cheers,

Jim

It is interesting to me how many times you use the word, "I". We humans claim to have an open mind and to serve God. Many don't. We need to take off self and put on Christ only. Not our own opinions.

Also, not every man can be correct and going to heaven if so we would have no commitment to Christ. It wouldn't matter how we lived we would go to heaven. The Bible is very clear that Christians must live a certain way to INHERIT the kingdom prepared. (Matt. 25:34)

Christ didn't say to Saul before he was Paul because you in your heart of hearts thought that you were doing the right thing are going to be in heaven. Saul was killing Christians- a sin is a sin and has no measure. Rom. 6:23, Num. 5:6. You see it is not what feels right to us, we as humans do not have a measure! God's word is our measure and we must humbly search His scriptures for what He wants us to do. Which is only one way. Any other book other than the Bible is created by man and not to be followed, let alone written.
