Sunday School and King James

As I have mentioned before, I always find it interesting when one research project intersects with another. Below represents an intersecting of research on Alonzo Nunnery and the King James translation of the Bible. Some people act as if Baptists were unconcerned about which Bible to use before Peter Ruckman wrote about it. Not so! This missionary Baptist Church was concerned in 1923, and passed a resolution about it.

RESOLUTIONS

Whereas, we believe that the King James translation was done in accordance with God’s will, and whereas, there have been millions of souls led to Christ by preaching the same, and whereas, thousands of people have the King James and are not able to buy the Revised, and whereas, we believe that the common class of people understand the King James translation more than the Revised, and whereas, we believe that if the Bible is tampered with the next 100 years as has been in the past 100 years that its influence will be weakened;

Therefore, Be it Resolved, that we the Missionary Baptist church worshipping at Center View, Okla., request our editor of our Sunday School Literature to use the King James translation in preparing our Sunday School Literature.

Be it Further Resolved, that a copy of this resolution be spread on our church record to become a part of our church history, and that a copy be sent to the Baptist Worker for publication.
