Mary's song

From HYMN 60 L. M.
The Virgin Mary's song. Luke 1:46ff.

He spake to Abram and his seed,
"In thee shall all the earth be blessed;"
The memory of that ancient word
Lay long in his eternal breast.

But now no more shall Isr'el wait,
No more the Gentiles lie forlorn:
Lo, the desire of nations comes;
Behold, the promised seed is born!

Isaac Watts (1674-1748)
Hymns and Spiritual Songs, 1707

This precious seed was born many days ago. It was a seed that cold winds and long droughts could not stop. A harmless seed that man may plant in his field could never come to fruition, given cold winds and little rain.

What seed could alter civilizations and ages to come? This seed is one which cannot be reproduced, nor carefully tended by man's feeble efforts. Let us give thanks and be forever greatful there is only one such seed.
