An open mind is nothing, and other quotes

The posting of quotes by human authors does not constitute agreement with either the quotes or their sources. (I try to confirm the sources that I give, but may miss on occasion; please verify if possible.)

“Merely having an open mind is nothing. The object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.” -- G. K. Chesterton (in his Autobiography)

“An open mind is really a mark of foolishness, like an open mouth. Mouths and minds were made to shut; they were made to open only in order to shut.” -- G. K. Chesterton (in Illustrated London News, October 10, 1908)

“...liberalism within the ‘evangelical’ churches is inferior to Unitarianism...in the matter of honesty. In order to maintain themselves in the evangelical churches and quiet the fears of their conservative associates, the liberals resort constantly to a double use of language.” -- J. Gresham Machen (1881–1937)

“Bad coin is no proof that there is no good money. Nay, rather it is a sign that there is some money current, which is valuable and is worth imitation.” -- J. C. Ryle

“It is an undeniable truth that Hollywood – the people who curate and create the entertainment our society consumes – is filled to the brim with perverts, predators, and leftwing extremists.” -- Matt Walsh

“Judas kisses and words of friendship hide the bad feelings that lurk within.” -- Pulpit Commentary on Proverbs 26:23

“If it had not been for misguided, ill-trained, or worse, irresponsible, under-shepherds, leading their flock to burnt-out pastures and raging rivers, to tumult and confusion, the churches would not have abandoned the Bible in the first place.” -- Peter Van Kleeck, Sr.

“Reading can seriously damage your ignorance.” -- Unknown

“A true work of art takes at least an hour.” -- Charles Schulz

“It cannot be justified to venture out into the world for six days and neglect the church on the Lord’s Day.” – Pastor Glen Stuart, in reference to peoples’ “Covid-19” actions and reactions.

“Old age comes at a bad time. Now that you finally know everything, you start forgetting everything you know!” -- Author unknown

“When you love what you have, you have everything you need.” -- Author unknown

“If the heavenly gold is not worth digging for, you are not likely to discover it.” -- Charles H. Spurgeon

“To honour anything in religion contrary to God’s Word is to lean on something other than God. That is idolatry.” -- John Knox, perhaps (in an article about Knox, but unclear whether it is a direct quote)
