A Tennessee judge has changed an infant's name from 'Messiah' to Martin.
Parents of the for-now named Martin DeShawn McCullough probably got a surprise when they went to court over the boy's name. The father and mother could not agree on the child's last name. The judge fixed that, but in the process changed the boy's first name, too. What was that name? Messiah. Now it is Martin.
While I think naming a child Messiah is inane and problematic, do we really want the court system naming our children for us? Shouldn't that be the parents' right? Is there ever a point where it is over the top and should be reversed by a judge?
