More Baptist Voices for the KJV: Independent Baptist

These “Voices for the KJV” come from the independent fundamental Baptist tradition. I started not to include representatives from this group – simply because they are usually those who are best known for holding a “KJV-Only” position. On further reflection I decided to include a few samples.

More Baptist Voices for the KJV: Reformed Baptist

The Reformed Baptist Churches tend to use either the 1689 or 1644 London Baptist Confession; so there is usually no statement about the King James Version in their articles of faith. Nevertheless, several specify that they only use the King James Bible for preaching and teaching.

These “Voices for the KJV” come from the United Baptist tradition. These Baptists trace their “origin” to the union of Regular Baptists and Separate Baptists under the name “United”. Many other Baptists in the U.S. have the same “point of origin” but have long since dropped the name United. Their grouping on this page does not imply that each church or association is related to or in fellowship with the others.

Disclaimer: Notes on web sites (e.g., as opposed to articles of faith) that a church uses the King James Bible evidently denote a strong preference for that Bible, but may not imply a church considers itself “King James Only.” I have presented here samples from 20 churches that claim affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention, and examples could be multiplied extensively. Two takeaways might be: (1) Many might be surprised at the number of Southern Baptist churches and preachers that believe “the King James Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of God,” and (2) However many KJV-Only Southern Baptist churches exist, they are probably only a very small portion of the total number of Southern Baptist churches.
