New singing season!

Well, another year has rolled around and we're started the new season of Sacred Harp singings in Texas. The first is in Fort Worth. On January 27, 2007 the 23rd annual William J Reynolds Sacred Harp Singing will be held at Cowden Hall on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. (1991 Revision/Dutch Treat)

Didn't want to clog up the original post about the singing with comments, but when I speak of this as a "new season" I'm kind of thinking of how it once was. In the older days most of the singings were from early spring to late fall, and the winter was left alone. I guess travel was slow (and troublesome in bad weather), facilities were "primitive", and the old-timers felt the cold dry air wasn't good for one's voice. Now with quick travel and well-heated facilities, December, Janurary and February is much the same as the rest of the year. We now have singings in all those months.
