Peter’s sermon in the household of Cornelius

“The summarie pith [i.e., the core, heart of the matter, rlv] in this accurate speech of Saint Peter unto Cornelius is, that all men indifferently, whether they be Jewes or Gentiles, have remission of their sinnes by faith in Christ, which is Lord over all things, and ordained of God to be the Judge of all men quicke and dead.”

The Workes of John Boys, Doctor in Divinitie and Deane of Canterburie, London: Imprinted for William Aspley, 1622, p. 666

Boyes further states that “The whole Sermon is divided into three parts.” These are the proeme (that is, the preliminary comments, or introduction) verses 34-35; narration (concerning the chief points of belief in Jesus Christ) verse 36-42; and confirmation (by production of witnesses) verses 39-43. p. 666-667.

[Note: John Boys (1571–1625) was Dean of Canterbury from 1619 to 1625. This is not the same person as John Boys/Bois (1561-1644), King James Bible translator.]
