I was just given a copy of a book you might want to add to this list: Our Favorite Hymnal Revised, 1950. Elder W. A. Chastain appears to have kept most of the numbering the same but given unique numbers to all hymns where some were previously mysteriously numbered 32-A to 32-G and 391-A to 391-F. There are also other changes such as additional hymns and a different selection inside the front cover giving 469 numbered hymns plus songs inside both covers. My copy has a 20-line correction pasted in after the index. Several hymns near the end have numbers in a different font. I am curious whether this and the odd numbering in the older edition reflect last-minute edits or rather post-publication edits that were never credited as separate editions.

The 1938 book is numbered up to 396 with two unnumbered inside-cover songs and the aforementioned lettered songs. There is both a 32 and a 32-A and likewise both a 391 and a 391-A.

Thanks for this information about the revised hymnal. Do you know if the following entry would be correct, particularly the location and publisher?

Our Favorite Hymnal Revised, W. A. Chastain, Springfield, IL: by the author, 1950

Thanks!

Yes, he lists the same Springfield, IL address as on the older edition.

And no publisher, just his title as Editor of the Messenger of Peace with orders to be addressed to him personally rather than to the Messenger.

Thanks. I found it mentioned in Drummond's A Portion for the Singers, and he lists it as I have it above. I have added it.
