Mutually exclusive, not collectively exhaustive

"Calvinism and Arminianism may be mutually exclusive, but this does not mean that they are collectively exhaustive...The complexity comes when (we) move from being biblical theologians to becoming systematic theologians. Then, we attempt to redact these biblical statements into something that we can comprehend. To fit all of these things together in a manner comprehensible to we humans, we must make them complicated." -- comments by Bart Barber on his blog, Praisegod Barebones, 27 March 2007
