Mount Vernon Statement
The Mount Vernon Statement "...is an attempt to draft a document that conservatives -- whether they're Tea Party conservatives or social or economic or foreign policy conservatives -- can get behind and begin the process of reclaiming the Republican Party for small-government conservatives," says chairman of Conservative HQ.com Richard Viguerie.

Read it and tell me what you think.

The Mount Vernon statement is certainly something to be supportive of. But could there be enough support?

I am afraid we have a nation that is controlled by the media, and has ceased to reason and consider things for themselves. A better term might be the "knee jerk syndrome." I believe the dog and pony talk shows are largely to blame for this. It is no longer substance, but style which matters.

As for the 150 in Iowa, I would say this is shockingly high for the rural heartland. Basically they are making a mockery of The Word of God. You cannot help but notice the terminology of "their God." It is evidently one they have chosen to create in their own minds. They may mention creeds, articles of faith, etc., but the Holy Writ of God is nowhere to be found.

I see much in common with theindividuals who signed. Most represent a liberal theology that in recent years have tried to advocate this position. I cannot help but wonder what John Wesley would think of what the denomination he founded has become. News like this from the heartland certainly does not bode well for the rest of the country.

I haven't looked closely enough at the Mount Vernon statement to make a clear comment on it yet. Sounds good on the surface.

150 seemed high for rural heartland to me also. But I would suspect these might be elite religionists who don't represent the common folk.
