While it is true that the LORD often uses particular sins and transgressions (perhaps to get our attention) in the process of HIS chastening work, yet the man who is awakened to see himself for what he truly is does not “rate” his sin on the basis of how bad it is, but simply that there is no goodness dwelling within himself. This is a constant lament which is made more plain as we grow in grace and the knowledge of the LORD. For HE is of purer eyes than to behold iniquity and quite in contrast to HIS holiness, we are made to see ourselves as filthy wretches unworthy of the least of HIS mercies.Mike McInnis

No goodness dwelling within
