The "god" of the 20th century

"The 'god' of this twentieth century no more resembles the Supreme Sovereign of Holy Writ than does the dim flickering of a candle the glory of the midday sun . The 'god' who is now talked about in the average pulpit, spoken of in the ordinary Sunday School, mentioned in much of the religious literature of the day, and preached in most of the so-called Bible Conferences is the figment of human imagination, an invention of maudlin sentimentality. The heathen outside the pale of Christendom form 'gods' out of wood and stone, while millions of heathen inside Christendom manufacture a 'god' out of their own carnal mind . In reality, they are but atheists, for there is no other possible alternative between an absolutely supreme God, and no God at all . A 'god' whose will is resisted, whose designs are frustrated, whose purpose is checkmated, possesses no title to Deity, and so far from being a fit object of worship, merits nought but contempt ." -- (Arthur W. Pink)

What a very heart wrenching comment which rings true now more than ever. I'm not exactly sure when Mr. Pink made these comments, but the handwriting was clearly on the wall. I could not agree with him more.

For some reason, what largely passes as being the right way of religion today, I cannot seem to find in the Bible. We hear mortal men boast of the great work that God is doing in the community through outreaches and ministries. My question is, where is the evidence? Why is there more crime, hate, greed, do at all cost, etc? Did not someone once say, Where's the outrage?" There is none that I can see.

Modern man somehow thinks that religion's job is to make him feel good all of the time. Maybe he should read more closely in the Scriptures. It shall not always be a bed of roses. So many enjoy resting only in certain aspects of the Bible. Whether it be missions, healing, tongues, professions, dedications, etc. There is much more that is revealed. The church should be a type and shadow of the ark. Well, man has gradually let water leak through. It is quickly rising.

I think about all that man has done to drive a wedge between himself and God. Man does not seem to have nearly as much time as he once had. Or so he claims. Of course we all know there is still the same amount of time in a day. Has man just made less time for God. I am afraid so. Is it possible to picture the state of man if he devoted even a lesser portion to God in comparison to the time he tends to other matters?

It is indeed frightening now to think of the onslaught of technology in regards to man's relationship with God. You may argue that we have always had new inventions and such like down through history. That is true. But what we have had develope within the last 10 years or so is somewhat different. I believe the technology explosion has taken hold of man's inner self. Could it be that it is getting a firm grip on his entire existence? I am one to think so. No doubt, there is much to be gained from technology. But there is also a steep price to be paid when not guarded. I am afraid there will be far reaching consequences down the road as a result of this lightening fast boom. I believe so many are blinded by this fact. But thanks be to God. He is the Alpha and Omega.

The title of your blog is similar to the title of popular religious television program in many parts of the world.

They also have a 24/7 broadcast on the Internet. Perhaps take a look at their website.

http://theoldpath.tv

The name of the people maintaining the television program is Members of the Church of God International.

Thanks for the information. Despite the name similarity, I think we have little similarity in faith and practice.
