I always enjoy seeing these many uncommon words. I am not entirely sure, but i believe it was Richard Nixon who for many years had a goal of learning at least one new word each day. A challenge no doubt.
The article from where you obtained the word was right on the money. I would say another appropriate title would be,"The Age of Excess." Whatever the excess may be, it comes at you from all sides now, and in most cases, not for the better.

I would find it very hard to learn a new word each day. The problem might not be "learning" it, but remembering it!
