Of the comments I have heard today, the underlying theme seems to be that Gerald Ford was a decent man, which i believe was true. It makes you wonder how many politicians can say that today.
One of his greatest strengths was the ability to work together with all sides for the betterment of the country. How we need more of that today. What a whirlwind journey when someone goes from the House to the Presidency in a span of eight months. He was a staunch American.
A fact that may not be well known is that Mr. Ford's birth name was Leslie Lynch King. His mother remarried a short time later and renamed him Gerald Ford in honor of her new husband.
It was pointed out by someone during the coverage of President Ford's funeral procession that 40% of the american population were not alive during his time in office.
During the last few days much attention has been brought once again to arguably the "greatest generation". I believe it is important to never lose sight of their sacrifice and accomplishments, as their numbers shrink.
That's an enlightening statistic, Neil. I never would have thought that 40% of the current U.S. population were not even alive during Gerald Ford's time as President.
