I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew

“He first loved me.”

I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew
He moved my soul to it Who sought for me;
It was not I that found, O Savior true;
No, I was found of thee.

Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the storm-vexed sea;
But not so much that I on Thee took hold,
As by Thy hold of me.

I find, I walk, I love, but ah, the whole
Of love is but my answer, Lord, to Thee;
For thou wert long beforehand with my soul–
Always Thou lovedst me.

This hymn is not one that I knew I tune for, but it looks like the one at he following link seems to be a common tune for these words on Hymnary.org
I Sought the Lord, and Afterward I Knew

Hello, there is music to this beautiful piece. In the Trinity Hymnal, the tune PEACE by George Chadwick is used. I am a songwriter and also wrote a new tune for I Sought the Lord, adding a chorus section. Here is the link if you would like to listen to that version on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQMpLjXJ3Cc God bless as you worship Him!
