I appreciate your clarification as well. Have a great day.R. L. My comment would have fit much better over there.

StanStan NJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15992679969169132381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20166943.post-78875720956696751712021-02-26T22:35:17.887-06:002021-02-26T22:35:17.887-06:00Hi, Stan. Thanks for your comments, with which I can agree. I am not sure, but perhaps you have taken the quotes in the post as an objection to commentaries? I think they intend to emphasize the importance of the Bible, and that none of those quoted would object to commentaries. Just want to state that, in case you might have been thinking along that line. For a post that addresses specifically, see Commenting and commentaries.

Thanks again, and have a blessed day.R. First time reader.
A preacher once told me...Hello. First time reader.

A preacher once told me he didn't believe in commentaries, just studying the Bible itself. I said but every time you preach you're making commentary on Scripture to your congregation.

He expected his hearers to listen to his commentaries, but he disdained listening to any other's commentary?

This is a case of hands saying they don't need eyes, or ears saying they don't need feet. We each receive a portion of grace to build up the Body. We should not think little of the labor of those who possess different gifts than our own. And, as Paul admonished us, we are not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.

StanStan NJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15992679969169132381noreply@blogger.com
